UNO.
i LOVE leeds. like it is the best city ever. nothing excites me more than driving down the m621 and seeing the leeds skyline on my way back to my favourite city ever. (well in the uk for sure). leeds deserves the world, and i think it is an amazing place, full of amazing people, and amazing universities of course.

UNO.
i LOVE leeds. like it is the best city ever. nothing excites me more than driving down the m621 and seeing the leeds skyline on my way back to my favourite city ever. my ideal career goal involves using design for the good of the world. and i think that's a pretty close match with what you're values are. showcasing leeds for a year, (personally i think it should be more but a year will do), and simply selling the city as the amazing place it is. i want to do good with design, offering my future services for free to those who need it most (like charities and non-profits supporting those affected by gun violence in the usa). leeds 2023 also uses design for good, even after becoming ineligible for the city of culture, leeds did it anyway. and i am a massive fan of the design.

i'm part of a group called "laidlaw scholars" – to put it short, we got a £6,000 research sum, produced a piece of academic research in first year, spent second year abroad (six weeks in fiji), and mentor new scholars through the scheme. i also encountered leadership training, filled out the LOOOOONGEST quintax survey ever, and spent weeks trying to get money back from the scheme that i'd spent on injections for my trip to fiji. anyway, the point of this is that it has taught me how to be a team player, one who you can turn to, one who can lead when necessary, one who can offer an alternative perspective and give friendly advice. and one who can spend 6 weeks in a completely different culture, showering in a river and living with a fijian family. i think that's pretty cool if you ask me.

i've got a little bit of experience in everything. writing long boring academic papers (check). coding a website from scratch which is fully responsive with HTML and CSS (check). working in a digital media team on a real-life netflix brief (check). designing a campaign for social good (check). designing the branding behind the leeds university 2020 rent strike (check).

i've designed for a purpose before. i was head of design for cut the rent leeds, a student run organisation protesting the treatment of students and the unfair costs we faced during the covid pandemic, specifically when we were being charged £££ for rooms we legally were not allowed to be in. part of the campaign involved designing a leaflet which was printed and distributed to EIGHT THOUSAND students. the end result was over 120 strikers withholding £322,000 of rent from the university, resulting in 100% rent rebates, and allowing international students to break their contracts penalty free. i'm not lying either (google it).
